Discover the benefits of studying abroad.

The benefits of studying medicine abroad are widely overlooked and misunderstood. After six years of learning in a class together, you develop strong bonds with your classmates from all over the world, leaving you with a very international network in the future.

Our students who studied abroad after telling us about their experience have come back with an extra language that many people would love to learn (i.e., German, Italian, Spanish). The benefit of this is not only the knowledge of the language, but also the significant development of your interpersonal skills, which is vital to your career as a doctor.

Many of our students, over the course of their 6 years, got to discover and explore Europe on their free weekends. Which allowed to enjoy these mini holidays while still being able to return home to spend their breaks off fully with their friends and family at home

I didn’t get medicine as a CAO offer, what are my options?

Take a deep breath - Here are you options

Missing out on medicine by few points is very common. Hundreds of Irish students now study medicine abroad and still return to Ireland fully qualified. However, many don’t realise the options they have and how it affects their future choices

Option 1 - Study medicine abroad

Countries: Italy, Germany, Poland, Croatia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Romania, Spain.

Entry Requirements: usually high-school diploma + entrance test (IMAT, local exam, or interview).

Language: Programs are in English.

Tuition Fees: €6,000–€25,000 per year.

Recognition: Degrees from named universities are recognised by the Irish Medical Council (EU directive).

Option 2 - Retake the HPAT / and The Leaving Certificate

Some students chose to repeat their exam. We believe this is a can be a wise decision as it can keep costs low. However, it highly depends person to person. There is also the risk of not getting accepted again and missing out on another year you could be progressing towards your career as a doctor

Option 3 - Graduate Medicine

Study Graduate medicine after an undergraduate degree. This can be an excellent option for some. However, again there are risks involved. You will need a 2.1 or above in your undergraduate, and also a competitive GAMSAT score. This is definitely achievable for many, but there is the risk of losing out on time with this option, and the fees of graduate medicine are higher than CAO entry.
